Software Development Support Engineer

Providence, a full-service multidiscipline environmental and engineering consulting firm, is seeking a highly motivated junior level Software Engineer to support the software division of Providence Engineering.  Providence creates and sells software to simplify the process of air dispersion modeling, which is a component of many regulatory air permitting exercises.  The selected candidate must work out of office in Dallas, TX.  The ideal candidate will have software development experience and be well versed in C#, and VB6.  The selected person will aid in a long-term project that is largely rewriting several applications, that are currently in VB6, into C#.  In addition, the selected person will help with maintenance and updates of our current software products, working closely with our small software team.  Experience in the air quality field, meteorology, GIS, or database development would be bonuses.


  • Help the software team to port several graphical user interface (GUI) software packages from Visual Basic 6 (VB6) into the C#
  • Help Providence to develop and market new software products related to air quality modeling and environmental compliance
  • Provide technical support to Providence software customers
  • Help the software team update all Providence software products, based on either internal suggestions or customer-based suggestions
  • Help the software team keep user manuals and other documentation for software products up to date
  • Assist in keeping Providence software team's websites (including its CRM data base) monitored and up to date.


The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability requirements of this position:

  • BS in any engineering, science, or computer related field
  • Fluent in C# and VB6
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience
  • Excellent technical abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Possess the ability to coordinate and work effectively in a team setting
  • Experience conducting air quality dispersion modeling (AERMOD, ISC3, Screen3, etc.), a plus
  • Experience with Visual Studio a plus
  • Experience with SQL a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS a plus
  • Fluency in FORTRAN a plus
  • Ability to adhere to safety requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
