Providence, a multidiscipline engineering and environmental consulting firm with corporate headquarters in Baton Rouge and offices in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and Houma, seeks a full-time experienced Staff Accountant for its Baton Rouge, Louisiana office. This position will report directly to the Corporate Controller.

 

Responsibilities:

Assisting with month, quarter, and year-end close activities

Prepare and post accruals and recurring journal entries

Monitors the General Ledger for discrepancies and miss-posts. Alerts originating department of need for adjustment and assures that corrections/adjustments are processed to the correct account

Participates in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly cash forecasts

Monitors work flow in order to meet month-end/quarterly reporting requirements and alerts Controller to any issues with systems or staff which would impact the department's ability to meet deadlines

Maintaining internal process and procedures manual while developing a broad and deep understanding of all accounting processes and suggesting process improvements

Cross-train to assist Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams as needed and be a resource within accounting for operations staff questions/requests

Special projects and other duties as delegated by the Controller

 

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or Finance

CPA

2 years full-time accounting experience; experience working in or with Engineering Firms a plus.

Understanding of accrual accounting, GAAP, and internal controls

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills

Detail oriented

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Deltek Vision a huge plus.

Effective organizational skills including the ability to work independently and consistently achieve reporting deadlines

Must be honest, trustworthy, discreet, and able to maintain strict confidentiality with all financial information
